Three suspects arrested for post office robbery

“One police officer sustained injuries while tackling the armed suspect.”

Duduza – Three men were arrested for an attempted robbery at the post office in Bluegumview on Wednesday afternoon.
It is alleged the men gained entry into the post office by pretending to be from a courier company. Carrying a box upon entry, they closed the doors and pulled out their firearms, pointing them at staff members.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said they then took an undisclosed amount of cash.

“Their luck ran out while they were packing the money when a community member alerted the police.
“Police caught up with the suspects when they were trying to get away. A shoot-out ensued between the police and suspects, leading to one suspect being shot.
“The other two suspects and some of the cash and two unlicensed firearms were recovered.
“One police officer sustained injuries while tackling the armed suspect. The member was rushed to hospital but later discharged and is in a stable condition,” he explained.

Manaka added the injured suspect is under heavy police guard at the hospital.
The suspects will face charges of business robbery, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
