Kwa-Thema’s matric results

Kwa-Thema – While some schools were able to maintain a high pass rate, others, unfortunately, took a dive.
Kenneth Masekela Secondary School obtained a 73.2 per cent pass rate.
The school had 309 matriculants, 306 of whom were able to write the final exams.
Of these learners, 224 passed.
With 118 bachelor’s degree admissions, 84 diploma admissions and 22 higher certificate admissions, there was a slight decrease in their pass rate by three per cent.
They obtained 67 distinctions, with one of their learners, Busisiwe Mkhonta, attaining distinctions in mathematics, accounting, life orientation, business studies, economics and English.

At Nkumbulo Secondary School, 146 learners registered to write the matric final exams.
Only 144 were able to write and 112 learners passed.
Two learners received incomplete results.
The school attained 47 bachelor’s degree admissions, 39 diploma admissions and 26 higher certificate admissions.
This gave them an overall pass rate of 77.77 per cent, which is a major drop from the previous year’s 85 per cent.
Tlakula High School saw an improvement in their performance from 73.2 per cent the previous year to 84.76 per cent.

Kenneth Masekela Secondary School top achiever Busisiwe Mkhonta (18) obtained six distinctions and wants to study accounting science at the University of Witwatersrand. “I am good with numbers and have had the desire to study accounting since I was in Grade Nine. I want to become a chartered accountant,” she said.

They had 151 learners write the exams, 128 of whom passed.
The school obtained 87 bachelor’s degree admissions, 33 diploma admissions and eight higher certificate admissions.
School principal Nonhlanhla Thembekwayo is pleased with the results.
“There is an improvement even though we could have done better.
“We promise to do better this year by achieving a pass rate of 90 per cent.
“The Class of 2020 was a hardworking group. The learners were committed, and teachers and parents worked hard too,” she said.

At Laban Mothlhabi Comprehensive School, 104 learners wrote the exams, 85 of whom passed.
The school obtained 13 distinctions, with 37 bachelor’s degree admissions, 34 diploma admissions and 14 higher certificate admissions.
Their results dropped from 90.1 per cent the previous year to 81.73 per cent.
Phulong Secondary School saw an increase in their pass rate from 75 per cent to 79.16 per cent.
They had 168 learners write the exams, 134 of whom passed.
Learners attained 17 distinctions and the school obtained 41.35 per cent bachelor’s degree admissions, 48.87 per cent diploma admissions and 9.77 per cent higher certificate admissions.
