Weekend sees 71 arrested for various offences

Kwatsaduza – Seventy-one people were arrested in the Ekurhuleni East policing precinct over the weekend.
Police stations in this precinct include Devon, Dunnottar, Duduza, Kwa-Thema, Nigel, Tsakani and Springs.
Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka said the arrests were a result of a commitment by members at stations through crime prevention, sector policing, detectives and collaboration between law enforcement agencies such as the EMPD and other SAPS departments.

“Different operations were conducted in the different station areas, including the High-Density Operation conducted in Kwa-Thema on Saturday which netted 28 suspects in one night.
“Those arrested face charges including assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, a common assault which includes domestic violence, theft, possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property, and firearms and ammunition-related charges.
“Most were arrested for contravention of the amended level three regulations as police continue to enforce the law to ensure compliance.
“All arrested suspects are expected to appear before the different magistrate’s courts during the week,” he explained.
