Chief whip’s office to monitor service delivery

“As per the programme, the grass is cut only every six weeks and now because of the rain they could not reach other areas."

Kwa-Thema – Ekurhuleni ANC councillors have taken it upon themselves to conduct weekly service delivery spot checks.
The campaign is aimed at monitoring service delivery with the special focus on environmental issues, which include waste removal, illegal dumping and grass-cutting.
In recent weeks residents have been complaining about the uncut grass and illegal dumping sites in their areas.
One resident, tennis coach Moses Ngwenya complained about the overgrown grass at the tennis court.

“It is difficult for us to access the tennis courts, we take a risk walking through the long grass not knowing what lies in there.
“Tennis balls also disappear in the long grass and we cannot afford to replace them weekly.
“We are urging for the grass to be cut for the players to be able to practise,” he said.
Deputy chief whip of the ANC in Ekurhuleni Clr Ebrahim Motara said the mandate came from Ekurhuleni chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi’s office.
“This will ensure that service delivery reaches people and on time.
“We have been receiving complaints from residents and ward councillors about the uncut long grass in their areas.
“This is as a result of the seasonal rain that we have been receiving in the past weeks.

“As per the programme, the grass is cut only every six weeks and now because of the rain, they could not reach other areas.
“What our residents should remember is that because of Covid-19, officials have been working on rotation and didn’t have a full staff complement.
“This made it difficult for the limited staff to reach all the areas,” he explained.
Motara added that now that all staff members are back, they are hoping that they will reach all the areas.
“We will be pressurising the metro to ensure services are provided,” he said.
