CIT vehicle bombed

It is alleged that while a G4S cash vehicle was travelling along Vlakfontein Road, a silver Mercedes-Benz C-Class rammed into the side of the cash van, causing it to roll over onto its side.

On Monday between 11.45am and noon, Kwa-Thema SAPS received a report of a cash-in-transit (CIT) heist.
It is alleged that while a G4S cash vehicle was travelling along Vlakfontein Road, a silver Mercedes-Benz C-Class rammed into the side of the cash van, causing it to roll over onto its side.

It is alleged the perpetrators used this Mercedes-Benz to ram into the G4S vehicle, which was carrying an undisclosed amount of cash at the time.

According to Const Nkululeko Magudulelo, communications officer at the Kwa-Thema Police Station, four men armed with high power rifles approached the van from out of the Mercedes.

“Shots were fired and the security guards were instructed to open the van.
“The victims tried but could not open it and they used the emergency exit.
“The two guards in the rear were then instructed to lie on the ground and their firearms were taken.
“One of the suspects then got an explosive device from the Mercedes and came back to the cash vehicle.
“An explosive device was detonated and the van was blown open, with the driver still trapped inside,” said Magudulelo.
