Const Nkululeko Magudulela (33) is looking forward to the challenge as the new communications officer of the Kwa-Thema Police Station.
“My friends and family always said I should be a police officer.
“But I was hesitant at first.”
He eventually took a leap of faith and discovered it was the right fit for him.
Now, after four years in the force, Magudulela said he may have found his niche in communications.
“My job is to be a bridge between the station, the media and the community.
“There is so much education that can be offered to the public about what the role of the police is and how they can assist us.

“But people do not always know what to expect from the police.
“It would be great if we could work together.
“Our work is not easy.
“There are many things we have to do, under the rule of law, and everyone has to abide by them regardless of our personal feelings,” explained Magudulela.
He encourages every citizen to offer information to the SAPS.
“People know a lot of things that are going on around them.
“Some of that information can help us get justice for victims.”

Members of the public can give the police tip-offs anonymously.
“Your neighbour does not have to know you were the one who gave us the information.”
Magudulela also encouraged walk-ins by the community to report ill treatment from the staff in the police station.
“There is always a relief commander who can attend to your grievance.”
