Locals receive food donations

“We identified there were families in need and because of Covid-19 many are finding it hard to go back to the means they depended on to support their families."

Kwa-Thema – Forty-one disadvantaged residents from Kwa-Thema received food parcels at the Legends Village Pub and Shisanyama on Tuesday.

The donations were made possible through the contributions of local business people, the SAPS, CPF and
Ward 74 councillor Thulane Simelane.

Sector one public relations officer Sandile Nyauza said the project was aimed at building and strengthening the relationship between police and the community of Kwa-Thema.
“We identified there were families in need and because of Covid-19 many are finding it hard to go back to the means they depended on to support their families.
“We decided to approach local businesses in the area to assist us in helping them.
“We are happy they didn’t hesitate to come on board and encouraged us to identify more households
than we had anticipated reaching.
“Through the help of the local leaders we were able to identify families that qualified to benefit from the initiative,” he said.

Simelane urged the beneficiaries not to trade the food parcels in exchange for money.
“We have in the past identified there were recipients that decided to sell the parcels.
“This is wrong because another household that also deserved to benefit was overlooked for your benefit.
“Local business people also made sacrifices for these donations to be successful and the least we can do is appreciate the efforts,” he said.
