Blue light hijackers at work on N17

Woman hijacked on N17 by blue lights hijackers

A woman was hijacked by a group of men posing as police officers on the N17 last Friday evening.
Springs police spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora said the woman was driving on the highway when she noticed a car with blue lights and sirens driving behind her.
She pulled over and called her son, placing her cellphone on the dashboard so he could hear what was going on.

Two men approached her and checked her car’s licence disk and her driver’s licence.
One of the men then opened the passenger door, while another two opened the back doors and climbed in.
They told her they would not kill her if she cooperated with them.
The woman screamed for her son on the phone but the men put her in the back seat and drove off to a nearby farm.

The men were apparently spooked by the sight of headlights coming from the direction of the farm.
They then fled the scene with the car. Other valuables stolen by the hijackers include a tablet, two cellphones, a wristwatch and R6 000.
