Kwa-Thema – Residents are warned against job scammers targeting the unemployed. In the most recent incident, a 22-year-old woman was promised a job in exchange for sex. After seeing a job advertisement on Facebook, the victim called and arranged to meet up for an interview in Rosettenville, Johannesburg.

Kwa-Thema police spokesperson Sgt Media Khoza said on arrival the victim was told in order for her to be employed she needed to meet with the company boss. “The terms of the employment included having sexual intercourse with him and only then would she be eligible for employment, to which she agreed. “They proceeded to the alleged company boss in Rosettenville where she alleged she was raped, and given nothing in exchange. “The boss then told her they will email her the contract of employment and some forms. “The victim waited for the email but has since decided to report the matter to police,” she explained.

Police are investigating and Khoza urged the community to conduct background checks on companies and verify the information provided on such adverts, as failing to do so could result in job seekers posing a risk to their lives and becoming victims of crime.
