More rape cases reported

Mngomezulu called upon all perpetrators to understand the damage and hurt caused to the victims.

Tsakani – A high number of rape cases have been reported to local police in recent months. Tsakani SAPS spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu said it is disturbing to deal with this kind of behaviour in a society where women and children are not free. “We cannot live in a society where women are scared to live their lives because they fear falling victim to rape,” she said. Mngomezulu called upon all perpetrators to understand the damage and hurt caused to the victims. “Most incidents of sexual assault are carried out in isolated places such as indoors or velds and routes that are secluded. “Due to Covid-19 alert levels, schools are not operating on a normal basis and fewer learners are going to school, with some being targeted,” she said. Mngomezulu shared the following safety tips: • Make sure you walk in groups to and from school. • Do not entertain strangers. • Do not go to the mall alone. • Avoid isolated routes.

It is also important to never walk alone at night. “Remember to always have your cellphone location on and do not trust anyone you’ve just met on the street who promises to give you a job or who claims to be a prophet,” she said. Man dies in failed hijack   Follow us on:
