Kwa-Thema – Covid-19 has negatively impacted on many community initiatives with CanSurvive Cancer Support being no exception. The group, which used to meet once a week, has not been able to get together since the start of lockdown in March. Cancer survivor and chairperson of CanSurvive Cancer Support Ronnie Nkabinde said the support group is making adjustments in order to comply with Covid-19 protocols.

“Social distancing is not a problem because all our venues are big and social distancing was already applied during our last meeting on the eve of the lockdown in Daveyton. “We are currently communicating with our members via WhatsApp. Some of our Cancer Alliance members have stopped operating while others have scaled down their services because of a lack of finance. “We are still lucky to be of service to the community and we hope to expand our services to more hospitals in Ekurhuleni,” he said.
