Family in desperate need

They have no furniture, clothes and food.

Duduza – Resident Sarah Kobeng is appealing to the community and health officials to assist a father and son from Masechaba Section.
The pair are unable to care for themselves and have no furniture, clothes or food.
Kobeng, who is their neighbour, has been looking after them since 2016.
“I have been to social workers, the hospital and even the police trying to get them help without any success,” she said.

Injured boy’s family demands answers

Kobeng explained the father started acting out of character in 2016 and his condition is not improving.
“His son (27) is also on medication and is in no position to take care of himself or his father. Other family members are nowhere to be found,” said Kobeng.

Raising a child with special needs
The father and son do not work or receive a grant.
“I cook for them, help with their medication, accompany them to their clinic appointments and ensure they take their medication. I used to buy electricity for them before the father sold his electricity box.
“I have to make sure they have food, and while other neighbours help with collections, not everyone wants to help,” she said.
Kobeng states she has been taking strain, caught up between helping this family and having to take care of her own children.
“I am exhausted and it’s very hard but I cannot just abandon them as I feel they are a danger to themselves,” she added.
Kobeng may be contacted on 083 354 1647.
