Father and son accused of assault fear for their lives

Accused father and son fear for the safety of their family

The Springs father and son accused of assaulting the domestic worker in their employ categorically deny the allegations against them.
It was reported in last week’s Advertiser how the pair are accused of assaulting Johanna Mkhonza, a 62-year-old domestic worker.
They were arrested and are currently out on bail.

While they have faith in the justice system, the pair claim the matter has been taken over by the media.
They are hopeful, however, that all parties involved will stay unbiased and let the evidence speak for itself.
Most concerning to them now is their safety and that of their family.
Since the night of the alleged incident on August 17, the pair said they have been branded as women beaters and racists.
Additionally, their photos have been posted on social media and their home address has been made public.
The address was published on a poster for a protest to be staged outside their residence by the Domestic Workers Union this past Saturday.
Furthermore, the family has noticed cars driving past their house several times a day since the alleged incident.

“My entire family is scared that something will happen to us. We see all the comments on social media and recall one post, which stated “can’t we deal with him personally, we live like five minutes away”.
“That is concerning. What if the community takes the matter into their own hands?”
The family so fear for their safety that they have barricaded themselves in their home and placed blankets over the windows in case the house is petrol bombed.
When asked how they were coping with the media attention, the duo said they are being severely victimised.
“We are scared to leave our house. The EFF and ANC are involved and we feel this is now a political fight, and we are in the middle,” they said.
The pair will appear in court again on September 8.
