Church tackles addiction

Kwa-Thema – Members of the Christocentric Ministries have extended a helping hand to substance abuse addicts in Kwa-Thema. The church prepares meals for them and offers counselling and spiritual guidance. According to Pastor Siza Dhladhla, it was identified during Level Five lockdown that addicts in the community are neglected and left to fend for themselves.

“We could see they were going through a difficult period, but were not receiving any assistance. We decided to start a weekly soup kitchen where we provide them with a warm meal, share love and spiritual guidance,” he said. The church works in collaboration with the Thabang Xaba Foundation. Through this initiative, it is hoped the addicts will be convinced to enter rehabilitation and stay off the streets.

“We are trying to show them there is somebody in the community who still cares for them and who is ready to help them get back on their feet. “Everybody deserves a second chance and they are not an exception,” said Dhladhla.
