Duduza Police Station shines

Duduza Police Station gets rewarded for good work

Duduza – The Duduza Police Station was recently rewarded by the Ekurhuleni District SAPS for their hard work in fighting crime.

The station walked away with awards in five categories – Best Performing Station, Best Detectives, Client Service Centre and Complaint, Crime Prevention, and Human Resources and
Overall Station Efficiency.

Duduza SAPS station commander Lt Col Bheki Mhlungu is proud of his members for exercising their duties and servicing their community with excellence.

“This success can be attributed to the good working relationship we have with residents,
members of the CPF and community patrollers.

“The residents continue to hold us accountable, unlike in the past when we were left to exercise the law as we saw fit.

“We now engage with residents regularly and come up with ways in which they want to
be policed.

“Through the weekly suspect tracing, we are able to remove perpetrators from our streets,”
he said.

Mhlungu is, however, concerned about the increasing numbers of sexual offenses, especially cases involving minors.

“Since the beginning of this year, we have been recording a gradual increase in these
cases; the state of lockdown has also contributed to this.

“We have also identified that most of the suspects are family members and some
of the cases go unreported to protect the perpetrator.

“We are also unable to reach out to the children in schools, conduct
campaigns and share pamphlets in the community.”

Mhlungu urged residents to report cases of abuse to the police.
