Tsakani police officer shot in front of his home

The officer was taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Tsakani – Police are investigating a case of attempted murder after a 37-year-old off-duty police officer was shot in the leg on Friday evening.

The incident took place along Mhlanga Street in Langaville Extension Six when the officer, who was dressed in his uniform, was returning home from work.

Tsakani police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu explained the officer stopped his black VW Polo in front of his house and stepped out of the car to open the gate.

“He heard a gunshot and saw two unknown men walking towards him.

“The member produced his service pistol and fired a warning shot in the air.

“The suspects managed to flee into the darkness and when the officer went back to his car to drive into the yard he realised he could not move and there were blood stains on his trousers.

“The member’s sister, who was at the house, heard the gunshots and when she went outside to check, she saw her brother had been shot,” she said.

Mngomezulu added the officer was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
Police are appealing to anyone with information related to the shooting to come forward.
