Presidentia residents finally have hot water

Geysers at Presidentia fixed

Presidentia residents finally have hot water after geysers at the old age home were recently fixed by contractors.

More then 20 geysers have been out of order at Presidentia for the past four years.

Residents have been forced to boil water in which to bathe, or use their neighbour’s facilities.

Many residents are ill and this extra effort puts a lot of unnecessary strain on them.

Ward councillor Dean Stone says it has been very difficult to get a tender process to fix the problem as it involves many steps.

First, a complaint must be lodged by the housing department in Benoni, which creates a massive backlog.

But, finally, after a big push by Stone and others on his committee, the housing department hired contractors to fix the geysers.

Work by these contractors will also extend to other old age homes such as Markville whose residents have also been plagued by plumbing problemsMolendam’s geyser problems were fixed on Monday by the same contractors.

Presidentia resident Yvonne Britz, who is wheelchair-bound, says: “We are so grateful for the help we have been given.

“These geyser problems have caused us a lot of stress.”

Stone, however, says this is only a temporary fix and the geysers will have to be replaced at some time.
