“We named the initiative Padded Up because of the epaulettes worn by nurses and policemen and women; it represents dignity, which is the whole point of this initiative.

“We want to restore young black girls’ dignity by placing them on the highest pedestal; therefore, this is us paying it forward for them,” said Zindela.

The campaign aims to incorporate hygiene education, wellness and fitness.

Any age group is welcome to partake in this fun run.

“Giving back to my community is a continuous process which started while I was still in university, that?s when the giving bug bit me.

“I would have loved to start sooner, but I was sceptical due to the fear of failure.

“But through God, I eventually took the first step and with the help of my assistant, Millicent Moriri, we were able to bring the vision to life,” she explained.

“I love people and I love fitness, so why not bring the two together.

“One pad can make a huge difference in the life of a young girl.

“It has the power to decide whether she goes to school or not.

“It provides her an opportunity to be comfortable and go about her daily activities while knowing she is protected,” she added.
