Mega City Project well on its way after delays due to national lock down

Construction at the Mega City Project in Edelweiss is making steady progress as lockdown Level 3 allows for construction work to continue.

At the beginning of June, construction continued with the installation of water infrastructure.

A 5km fence is also being erected around the project for security.

The Mega City Project started in 2017 and is expected to be completed by 2026.

Ward councillor Shadow Shabangu says the project aims to empower local residents by employing local SMMEs and workers.

“They have been hard at work since the lockdown restrictions were relaxed.

“People in the area are working together; one SMME from the area brought us cement and another is working on putting up a fence.

“Most of the workers here are locals,” says Shabangu.
