Men of Worth Foundation looking to mentor males in the community

Kwatsaduza – The Men of Worth Foundation is urging men from the ages of five to 60 to apply for their mentorship programme.

Applications will run from July 1 until the end of August.

This non-profit organisation, founded by Seiso Mabaso in September 2019, focuses on mentoring and coaching men.

“My journey of mentorship started eight years ago.

“After matriculating, I began volunteering at my previous high school, helping learners with maths and science.

“I ended up adopting most of those learners and provided mentorship as well as assisting with funding for their tertiary education.

“I am passionate about giving back and addressing social issues, which is how the foundation came about,” says Mabaso.

Online applications will also be available from July 1 on all social media platforms.

“We would like to encourage men to join or partner with us.

“What I have noted is that most men would like to engage in mentorship relationships but are not sure how to go about it.

“Our doors are open to anyone who has interest.

“It can be through volunteering, donations and for mentorship opportunities,” he adds.

Mentors are required to be Christians, and for mentees no requirements applicable.

“Our programme is based on biblical principles, for the young mentees parents can apply on their behalf.

“The reason for this programme is that currently in South Africa, we have lots of young men who grow up without father figures to guide them or role models to look up to.

“Our programme is ongoing, our mentees will be paired with mentors best suitable for their needs, and they will be empowered,” explains Mabaso.

The organisation will launch an online survey called ‘Cry for help’ on Monday until July 5 on their Facebook page.

The purpose of the survey is to gather general perspective on mentoring of men and whether it could be used as a strategy to help reduce gender-based violence in South Africa.
