Hlasempho makes a difference during lockdown

Hlasempho continues to assist the community with much needed food donations

Zone Three Springs Social Crime Prevention, sector managers and Hlasempho Community Development Projects (CDP), sponsored by McDonald’s and Carnival City, visited the Vita Nova Centre in Daggafontein on Friday.

Vita Nova is a home for disable children.

The group donated loaves of bread and McDonald’s meals to the children.

“We also visited Mkhancwa informal settlements to deliver meals to over 70 children.

“Thank you to our donors and sponsors for thinking of us,” says Lenty Ntshona, founder of Hlasempho CDP.

Since lockdown started, the organisation has been a beacon of hope.

They have fed needy families at the Selope-Thema Clinic and throughout Tsakani and Duduza.

The organisation has already distributed over 1 500 food parcels of basic groceries.

The food parcels can feed a family of five for a month.

About 30 food parcels are distributed by them a day.

“We are not being funded by government or any political organisation,”she adds.

In partnership with a food bank in Cape Town and local contributors every month, the organisation is able to help those in need.

Ntshona has now attracted corporates like McDonald’s, Pick n Pay and Pep Stores to assist.

In the last two weeks, Hlasempho CDP, with McDonald’s and Pick n Pay, have been distributing meals and groceries in different areas.

“Covid-19 has brought us face to face with the souls of our fellow human beings.

“It took us back to who we really were before colonisation, ubuntu,” says Ntshona.

Ntshona is appealing to those who can join hands with her to do so. For more information contact the organisation on 073 782 4084.
