Metro responds to water leakage

Water burst leaves residents without water.

KwaThema – Residents of Mothlaping Street, in Thembilisha, were urged to remain calm following a water burst on Tuesday which left some residents in Ndlovu Street without water, and a pull of water running down the street.

Councillor Thulani Simelane says: “A water supply pipe between two houses had been blocked and needed maintenance.

“Which was the reason neighbouring houses didn’t have water, but metro workers are working on it and the water should be up and running in no time.

“In order for the joints to be changed from the water supply pipe the fire hydrant had to be opened, therefore, the workers could do their jobs,” says Simelane.

Nomalanga Dlamini, from the Department of Water and Sanitation, says residents had reported the leak to the metro.

“We received a call from residents reporting the leaking water supply.

“The two houses where the water supply is situated had no water from Tuesday because of the leak.

“The running water is from the fire hydrant which we had to open in order to fix the water supply pipe.

“The joints there were old and rusty, but we are working on replacing them with new ones,” says Dlamini.
