Tsakani – Tsakane Old Age Home will be fully functional during the 21-day lockdown as declared by the President on Monday.

Centre manager Phoko Mokubung says: “We fall under health services; therefore, access will be given to families of our beneficiaries should they wish to visit them.

“We advise that they collect letters from our office, which they can produce should they be stopped by officials on the road. They must have their identification cards with them as well.

“But there are strict protocols which we are putting in place to ensure the safety of our staff members and our beneficiaries.”

Old age home gets revamped to meet the needs of the elderly

The centre has implemented some changes within their facilities as a means to fight Covid-19.

“We are teaching our elderly members about hygiene and how they can stay safe, which is something we have been doing. “Therefore, we are not really panicking, as our staff members are fully trained.

“We have changed our dining hall seating arrangements, we are also monitoring the number of people who are coming in the centre to avoid overcrowding.

“No one is allowed in our kitchen except for the kitchen staff,” says Mokubung.

Visitors per family should not be more than two.

The centre is currently organising for masks and gloves.
