How can we support local talent?

The Kwatsaduza community speaks on ways to support local talent.

Kwatsaduza residents advise on practical ways to nurture and support home talent

Sihle Wilson: “As a person who is into art my myself, I think people need to start paying talent, because in most cases we get exploited by promoters and because we chase that big break we accept whatever we are being offered.”
Simphiwe Ndaba: “Almost everyone has access to the internet. I think we need to start posting and appreciating our own artists online, that way they will get exposure.”
Phumzile Mbiza: “What I have realised is that most people do not appreciate artists, especially during the upcoming stage. They want to start supporting once the person becomes a global superstar.”
Mandla Sibeko: “We have been a bit fortunate because so far people have shown us support by showing up to our shows and also participating, which for me is very important.”
Sibongiseni Jokjokwana: “Nowadays, these artists chase money instead of working on their craft, ensuring that they produce quality content. Therefore, it must start with them and they themselves also do not support each other.”
Amogelang Mahlangu: “Buy locally and provide reviews where possible and share online.”
Freddie Monare: “Attend their shows, artwork exhibition and educate people about arts and the importance of art.”
