Al mustaph Islamic Centre needs your help to identify old graves

The purpose is to help the Islamic community identify graves which were dug when the site was first established.

KwaThema – The Al mustaph Islamic Centre is inviting the community to assist them with cleaning the old KwaThema grave yard, in Extension Two, on Saturday from 7am to 8am.

Imam Themba Mashiyane says: “When the grave site was first introduced a couple of years back, the place was a Muslim-designated burial site.

“The problem is that during that time, families were not issued with grave identification numbers, which has led to some people not knowing where they have buried their loved ones.

“We are pleading with the community to come and work with us as we will be helping each other to revamp some of the graves and help with identifying who was buried where.”

Mashiyane says they have had incidents where people have placed tombstones in wrong graves.

“There’s confusion amongst people, especially with regards to the old graves.

“People are finding it hard to trace their graves and end up burying on top of old graves.

“It is important that we clear out cluster and maintain the site to make it simple for people to identify their graves,” he adds.
