Springs Taxi Association public relations officer Lyric Tau says: “The election was long overdue and a much-needed one.

“We were getting complaints from the community, which is why we decided on electing a new committee.”

Committee chairperson Sakhile Ndlangamandla says they have already started working and are using #Shanyela to ensure effective service.

“We want to get rid of illegal cars which are not registered under the association and those which do not comply with the necessary requirements.

“All cars part of the 4+1 pay a monthly fee to the association and they must comply with the rules and regulations.

“People who are already operating, but are not registered will have the opportunity from Monday to come to the Springs Taxi Associations office to sort out their paper works, as no car without the association’s sticker will be allowed to operate,” says Ndlangamandla.

Illegal taxi drivers are advised to register at Springs Taxi Association with original and certified copies of their identification cards, proof of residence and car permits.

Treasurer Mzwakhe Ndimande says residents should rest assured.

“We want to assure the community that their safety is a priority to us as a committee.

“From now on they should lookout for stickers to ensure the taxi they use is indeed a registered taxi.

“We also have a car that’s patrolling our areas from morning until late,” says Ndimande.
