Ayanda’s case postponed for the third time

“It pains me every time I come to court and I am reminded of the gruesome manner in which my daughter died."

KwaThema – The case of murder against Thulani Xaba, who is suspected of killing Ayanda Simelane, has been postponed to March 6 by the Springs Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning.

This is the third time the case had to be postponed since it was placed on the court roll in December.

The accused’s former legal representative, advocate Thabiso Moshitoa, was last week summoned by the court to make a formal submission that he is withdrawing himself from the case.

Xaba will now be represented by advocate Johan Botha, who asked presiding magistrate Nkhensani Moila to postpone the case to a later date for him to familiarise himself with the contents.

Dressed casually in a mustard-coloured jacket and black track pants, Xaba, who is out on bail, walked out of courtroom C while giggling with an acquaintance.

Simelane was found murdered in May 2018 behind the rental rooms at 9 Mokhitli Street in Phomolo Section.

It is alleged the deceased went clubbing in the area with Xaba on the night in question.

That was the last time her family saw or heard from her.

After more than a year of investigating, the accused was summoned to court in November 2019.

Speaking outside the court, Simelane’s distraught mother, Selina Simelane, says she wishes for the trial to start as soon as possible so that the family could find closure.

“It pains me every time I come to court and I am reminded of the gruesome manner in which my daughter died.

“I still wake up in the middle of the night to pray that this was a nightmare and my daughter is still alive.

“All I want is justice for Ayanda,” she says.
