Tlakula Secondary School fights unruly behaviour

“We will only be able to achieve this if our learners and parents work together."

KwaThema – Following the recent news of bullying and abuse in schools, Tlakula Secondary School governing body held a parents meeting to address some of the challenges they face in the school.

This is in response to the alarming number of learners who took their lives to end the bullying.

During the meeting, the members of the SGB read the school’s code of conduct which parents signed as a show of support.

Chairperson of the SGB Mxolisi Kota says they have identified challenges of unruly behaviour, late coming, vandalism of the school facility, learners not wearing proper school uniform and bullying.

“We would like to see the school back to its normal self with learners and have high performance.

“We will only be able to achieve this if our learners and parents work together.

“In the meeting, we also agreed to contribute funds towards hiring a security guard to be stationed at the school during the day to keep order,” he says.

Chief whip of the ANC in Ekurhuleni Jongizizwe Dlabathi decided to call this parents meeting to help come up with intervention strategies to fight this scourge.

Dlabathi says two weeks ago together with other stakeholders they visited the school as part of the back-to-school campaign.

“We would also like to see a big improvement in the school’s matric results in mathematics, science and accounting,” he adds.
