Tsakane Old Age Home receives donation of books

Tsakane Old Age Home manager Phoko Mokubung says the new addition will make a huge contribution to their small library.

Tsakane – The elders at Tsakane Old Age Home will be enjoying new reading material, following a donation of books on Tuesday.

The books were donated by various members of the public to African Reporter, who then decided to give the books to the old age home.

Tsakane Old Age Home manager Phoko Mokubung says the new addition will make a huge contribution to their small library.

“We have created our own small space where we keep our books, while we are trying to get sponsors who will assist us in creating a library within the facility.

“The books will make a huge contribution to the centre and the lives of our elderly community,” says Mokubung.

Sixty-five-year-old Elizabeth Mngcetsha says she has always loved reading.

“I used to read a lot as a young girl.

“I am so delighted at the opportunity to be able to read once again.

“I cannot wait to get started because that’s how I receive information and will get to know what’s happening in the world,” she says.

For pensioner Lucas Xshiloane, the books are a way of keeping busy.

“Reading is powerful and strengthens a person’s mind; therefore, I know without a doubt that I am going to enjoy reading these books.

“There’s great entertainment a person gets from reading and I wish young people would read more often and spend less time on their phones,” says Xshiloane.
