Police raid schools in KwaThema

“Some learners were found in possession of dangerous weapon, dagga and drugs,” she explains.

KwaThema – Police made an unannounced raid at schools in KwaThema as part of Social Crime Prevention programme to help fight drug peddling and violence.

The police were joined by law enforcement officers from Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD), traffic police, Department of Correctional Services, Department of Community Safety, Department of Education and local patrollers.

The raids were conducted at Tlakula High School, Nkumbulo High School and Lifa Ifa High school, after the schools’ governing body and teachers raised their concerns about a number of violent incidents at the school.

KwaThema police spokesperson, Const Media Khoza, says educators were experiencing problems varying from learners who are stabbing each other and taking drugs, rape, gansterism and bringing dangerous weapons to school.

“These raids are not only about searches, it is also educational, as police educate learners about safety.

“They will not only benefit learners inside the school premises but the community as well.

“Some learners were found in possession of dangerous weapons, dagga and drugs,” she explains.

The police followed up on tip-offs provided about dealers in the area, which led to the arrest of a 54-year-old man for dealing in drugs and dagga.

“The suspect was detained at KwaThema SAPS and is due to appear in KwaThema Magistrate’s Court soon,” she adds.
