Elderly men to teach young men morals

“As the elderly men in this community, we have decided to step in to help reshape the future of how young men behave,” he says.

KwaThema – Senior men from Kwatsaduza are taking a stand against gender-based violence in the area.

The group is saying no other woman will be killed or abused in the area while they are still around.

They will be hosting elderly and young men sessions to share wisdom and the importance of respecting oneself and those around you.

Group chairperson Ariel Madisha says as the elders in the community they have identified that young men in the area are losing their morals because there is no one to guide them.

“Many homes are led by women who are forced to leave their homes in the early hours of the morning for work and only return late at night.

“Children are often forced to raise themselves and end up becoming angry adults who are unable to tolerate other people.

“As the elderly men in this community, we have decided to step in to help reshape the future of how young men behave,” he says.

The men will be hosting their first Kofifie and Sophia Town Style initiative on February 6 at Monametsi Street, Phumolo.

Madisha says he is encouraging those interested in attending the initiative, especially the older men, to come dressed in their Kofifi-themed clothes.

“We want to first teach these young men how to dress and be presentable.

“We are concerned about young men walking around with pants sagging, revealing their underwear and those adopting the American style of dressing up.

“We believe when you feel good you do good; you also respect yourself and those around you,” he adds.
