36 arrested for various crimes

Kwatsaduza – Thirty-six drunk drivers and an alleged drug dealer were arrested in KwaThema, Springs, Greenfield and Brakpan over the weekend.

The arrests come as a result of a two-day operation in these areas.

The drivers were either driving while tipsy or in possession of narcotics.

EMPD spokesperson Kobeli Mokheseng explains that a female and 35 male motorists, between the ages of 28 and 53, were caught drunk on Heidelberg, New Kleinfontein, Industry, Kgaswane and Hospital roads while behind the wheel.

“They were stopped, breathalyser tests were conducted and they were arrested by precinct officers.

“They were taken to Brakpan, KwaThema and Springs police stations and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol,” he explains.

Mokheseng adds that on Sunday morning in the Greenfield area at the section between Eden Park and Palmridge, EMPD Drug Enforcement Unit members stopped and body searched a suspicious-looking 28-year-old male, found walking along Umtholo Road.

“The team uncovered 10 Mandrax tablets, two ziplock bags of khat, 200g loose dagga, one packet dagga, one ziplock bag of dagga and four paper-wrapped packages containing dagga valued at R1 500.

“The arrested suspect was marched to Eden Park Police Station, where charges of possession and dealing in illicit substances were registered against him.

“All the arrested suspects are expected to appear in Brakpan, Springs and Palmridge magistrate’s courts soon,” he adds.
