Fred Habedi Primary learners receive awards

The school is the only primary school in Kwatsaduza to have a fully functioning library, which includes audio visuals, librarians and variety of reading materials within school premises.

KwaThema – The annual prize-giving at Fred Habedi Primary School was held on December 3 and was sponsored by Masimong Foundation.

The annual event rewards learners who have performed excellently in their academic work and acknowledges the best readers within the school.

The school is the only primary school in Kwatsaduza to have a fully functioning library, which includes audio visuals, librarians and variety of reading materials within school premises.

Founder of the Masimong Foundation and co-organiser Sandi Teke explains that reading has an impact on the learners’ education.

“Today, we are honouring top learners who have dedicated themselves to learning and exploring beyond the classroom.

“Having a library within the schools premises makes their learning and discovering journey much better, and within reach it also contributes to the quality of work they produce academically.

“We have seen a huge improvement in their academic work,” says Teke.

Founder of the Masimong Foundation Sandi Teke with Silindokuhle Mnguni (11), Thandi Ndlovu (12), Mahlatsi Leeuw (9), Oratile Sibanyoni (12), Palesa Katiba (9), Refiloe Lekathwa (11), Tumisang Motaung (11), Sepati Mohage (8) and Siyamthanda Dlamini (6).

The school participates in various reading competitions throughout the year and top readers are also rewarded.

Thirty-two learners received certificates and trophies for their hard work throughout the year.

Learners from Grade R to Grade Seven were rewarded.

Learners at the school were also treated to lunch along with parents.

Top achievers and top readers walked away with gift vouchers worth R1 000 from Woolworths.

Six-year-old Siyamthanda Dlamini, a Grade R learner, says: “I am happy that I have passed Grade R and will be going to Grade One next year.

“I worked very hard and with the support from my family I managed to pass all my subjects and I got a certificate and a trophy today.”
