Elderly receive food parcels from church

Church gives out food parcels to the elderly.

Tsakane – The New Agreement Church of Christ under Archbishop DM Nkosi handed out food parcels to their elderly members on Sunday.

Organiser Jabu Maseko says with many people being unemployed and living in poverty, ensuring people have food this coming festive season was important.

“We are heading into the festive season and we cannot ignore the fact that most people will not have food in their homes this festive, hence we wanted to contribute in ensuring that our people are taken care of.

“Most of our elderly members reside with their grandchildren and they are the breadwinners, which means their social grant money has to accommodate everyone in their household,” says Maseko.

On December 15, mothers in the church will also receive food parcels.

Eighty-six-year-old pensioner Anna Simelane, who lives with her four grandchildren, son and daughter-in-law who are unemployed, says the food will help a great deal.

“I am very happy and thankful; the food will make a positive contribution at home for me and my family.

“We live in tough times because food is expensive and it is hard, especially because there is no one at home who is working,” says Simelane.

The church meets at Tsakane Primary School every Sunday.
