Murder trial of Ayanda Simelane postponed to December

The suspect was charged in connection with the murder of Simelane, whose lifeless body was found in May 2018 in Phomolo.

Magistrate Khensane Moila has postponed the murder trial of slain Ayanda Simelane (21) to December 4, at the Springs Magistrate’s Court.

The defence attorney for the man accused of the murder requested that the matter be remanded until February 2020.

He says he and his client have not had access to the docket and charge sheet.

He also argued that his client may not be able to take time off work in December.

“February is too far,” says Moila.

She says a lot can be done before the next court date, which is December 4.

She says she can preempt that the defence will request another postponement for consultations.

At the time, KwaThema police spokesperson WO Peter Tebeila told African Reporter that the deceased had gone out clubbing in the area.

During the initial investigation, there were allegations that an altercation broke out between Simelane and three unknown females.

The suspect will appear in court C of the Springs Magistrate’s Court on December 4.
