KwaThema – Two hijacked cars were recovered and one suspect arrested for the possession of a stolen motor vehicle by the Germiston Flying Squad on Friday.
The cars were reportedly hijacked in KwaThema.
Germiston Flying Squad communications officer Ntombikayise Ngcobo explains: “Members first recovered a silver Volkswagen Polo abandoned in the open veld next to KwaThema Square; the owner alleged he was hijacked by the occupants of a Toyota Corolla sedan.
“While they were still attending to this case, they received a tracking signal a kilometre from the open veld where another hijacked motor vehicle was.
“They proceeded and found a gold Toyota Corolla deserted between Mthembu Village and KwaThema Hostel with the assistance of a tracking company.
“It is alleged an unknown number of suspects hijacked the gold Corolla in Makenta Street, and then used to hijack the silver Volkswagen Polo in Moshe street, KwaThema,” she explains.

Meanwhile, in other incident, members of Benoni Flying Squad arrested a male in Masharie Street in Tsakane Extension Six for possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a white Ford Ranger that was reportedly hijacked in Bedfordview.
“A case was opened for possession of a stolen motor vehicle at Tsakane Police Station and a man aged between 30 and 35 years was arrested and has already appeared in the Tsakane Magistrate’s Court.
“The recovered vehicles were taken to Benoni SAPS vehicle storage camp, where further investigation will be conducted.
“We urge residents be alert at all times, be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious or criminal activity around them to the nearest police station or call 10111,” she adds.
