Many residents from Selcourt called in last week to complain that there rubbish was not being collected.
In response, Themba Gadebe of the metro says, “There were unforeseen vehicle breakdowns that caused collection backlogs.

“When refuse is not collected on the scheduled day, it is collected the next day.
“Refuse can also be taken to the nearest mini-disposal sites or the Rietfontein landfill site.
“The City uses vehicles allocated to other depots when there are breakdowns, in cases where there are no backlogs in those areas from which vehicles are drawn.”
Gadebe says the rumour about a workers strike causing the backlog is not true.
