Husband assaults wife for switching heater on

A case of assault and domestic violence was opened and the husband was arrested and detained at KwaThema Police Station.

KwaThema – A local woman was allegedly assaulted by her husband for putting the heater on, on Saturday evening.

On Saturday at about 10.21pm police received a complaint of domestic violence.

KwaThema police spokesperson Const Media Khoza says upon officers’ arrival, the victim explained to them that she had wanted to take a bath after doing her house chores and decided to switch on the heater to keep her bedroom warm.

She further alleged that as she came out of the bathroom, her husband confronted her and asked why she had switched on the heater.

“When she tried to explain he started assaulting her, claiming she was wasting electricity,” Khoza says.

KwaThema SAPS station commander Col Mareketle Thobejane expressed shock at how women are still vulnerable and fall victim to abuse at the hands of their spouses, especially during Women’s Month.

“Their homes are supposed to be a safe place.

“We commend her for her bravery in reporting the incident.

“The suspect will appear in the KwaThema Magistrate’s Court soon,” she says.
