Hawker wants to give back

“I grew up poor and did not have a proper bag myself. When I saw that child going to school with a torn bag, I remembered how I grew up and knew I had to do something”

Tsakane – Tsakane Mall hawker, Thabo Khunong, wants to donate school bags to Tsakane Primary School learners.

Khunong, whose child went to the school, says he saw a child without a bag and decided to do something about it.

“I grew up poor and did not have a proper bag myself.

“When I saw that child going to school with a torn bag, I remembered how I grew up and knew I had to do something” he explains.

He approached the school, who welcomed his idea but because he can only afford to donate 50 bags, he put the donation on hold.

“The school has about 750 pupils and 50 bags would be a drop in the ocean and would make it difficult for the school to assess who needs a bag more that another, so I have decided to use my skills to raise funds for the bags.” he says.

Khunong says he plans to provide a garden service for the residents of Kwatsaduza to help raise funds for the bags.

He has also asked community members and local business owners to assist where they can.

“I am always at my stall at the taxi rank at Tsakane Mall and anyone who needs the garden service, or would like to donate, can find me there,” he concludes.
