SANDF personnel visit Qedusizi Primary

School principal Bethuel Mhlanga says: “We are very privileged to be hosting the SANDF, their visit has inspired our learners, as they are now aware that being in the military is more than just about guns and wars.

KwaThema – Qedusizi Primary School held a Mandela Day event on July 18.

The school welcomed visitors from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Health Service Department.

Learners were taught how to plant vegetables, about hygiene, received sanitary pads and learned more about what the SANDF does.

The plants are meant to support the school’s nutritional programme and motivate learners to keep on farming.

Grade Six and Seven girls received tips from the ladies in the military on dealing with puberty, menstruation and taking care of their bodies.

School principal Bethuel Mhlanga says: “We are very privileged to be hosting the SANDF, their visit has inspired our learners, as they are now aware that being in the military is more than just about guns and wars.

“One can be a nurse, communications person or even a psychologist.”

Andries Motsoagae, school administrator, says the visit has motivated the learners to take their nutritional programme at school very seriously, and they are teaching parents at home about gardening and producing their own vegetables.

Learners were also encouraged to start their own vegetable gardens at home to alleviate poverty.
