Gogo feeds 213 for Mandela Day

“My heart is mostly with the elderly because should they not get a meal, they might not be able to take their medication.”

KwaThema – Hope of Hunger shared the love of Mandela Day with the elderly, drug users and less fortunate people of KwaThema during a special church service held at Esther Mbukwane’s home on July 18.

Before the service, the 213 attendees were served a hot bowl of soup and a bread roll.

Mam Esther, the founder of Hope of Hunger, says it is important for her to help the community, especially the elderly.

“My heart is mostly with the elderly because should they not get a meal, they might not be able to take their medication,” she says.

Mam Esther, a recycler, says she has also seen less fortunate people while doing her recycling work and feels the need to help them with the money she gets from it.

After the service, the attendees were also given lunch and a food parcel.

One of her sponsors, Woolworths Springs Mall, also sent a number of staff members who assisted with dishing up for the people.

Mam Esther expressed immense gratitude to her sponsors who not only helped her with her Mandela Day initiative, but also sponsor her for her monthly food parcels which she hands out to the less fortunate in her community.

“I am so grateful for the assistance I received from Boxer Superstores in Benoni and Boksburg, and Woolworths Springs Mall.

“We would not have managed to feed so many people had it not been for their help,” she concludes.
