Soup kitchen raises funds to assist drug addicts

His Word Ministries Soup Kitchen is inviting the community of Kwatsaduza to a fund-raising high tea talk on July 27 at Plot Four, Extension 15.

Duduza – His Word Ministries Soup Kitchen is inviting the community of Kwatsaduza to a fund-raising high tea talk on July 27 at Plot Four, Extension 15.

The soup kitchen caters to 200 people on a daily basis and is seeking to extend their services to accommodate drug addicts, especially those addicted to nyaope.

The programme will start at 8am and continue to 2pm.

Women in Crisis founder Tholakele Molangan says they not only want to provide food to the less fortunate, but also assist those battling with drug addictions and offer them a place to sleep.

“We are fund-raising for the soup kitchen to have an extra facility to help those who are affected by drugs so that after being served food they can get counselling.

“We have come to realised that most of these people are able to gather here for food, so we though let us do something to empower them instead of just giving them food,” explains Molangan.

The soup kitchen operates from 8am to 3pm from Monday to Friday.

Community pastor Humphry Sibande is encouraging the community to show up in numbers and lend a helping hand in ensuring the success of the event.

“I love the idea of churches reaching out to its community and truly wanting to implement change; this is very rare, which is why I fully support the idea.

“I think those who would like to volunteer or offer any assistance should come and do that.

“Nyaope continues to affect our families and loved ones,” says Sibande.
