Pensioners treated with love during 67 minutes

“We have donated office furniture, helped with gardening and put up the fire extinguishers, signage making sure that they are compliant.”

Tsakane – Members of the SANDF in Dunnottar and Emergency services landed a helping hand to Tsakane Old Age Home during the 67 minutes of Mandela Day on Thursday.

The members cleaned the centre and tended to their food gardens.

They elderly also enjoyed a cake which was donated by the local grocery store.

Sgt Betty Palathan says as part of their social responsibility, they helped to clean up the centre.

“We identified that many of the people in the centre do not have families to visit them.

“They also do not have access to the outside world because of their frail bodies, so by visiting the centre we believe they won’t feel neglected.

“We want them to know that we love them, and that they are part of the community.”

“We have donated office furniture, helped with gardening and put up fire extinguishers, signages, making sure that they are compliant.

“Because we are not only celebrating Mandela’s legacy today, we will also provide first aid training to the staff as well

“The compliance certificate will ensure that there is compliance for a year, and at the same time next year we will again train them,” he says.

Centre Manager Phoko Mokubeng says they are grateful for all the donations and help they received.

“We have received furniture, cash vouchers and more, to help make the elderly lead bearable lives during their stay at the centre,” he says.
