Spriritual leaders call for safety on the road

“We are calling for tolerance and patience on the road by motorists. It is better to reach your destination alive than dead,” he adds.

Duduza – Faith Based organisation in collaboration with Duduza police and other local organisations held a Devine Intervention Mass Prayer session on some of the major roads, which included Vlakfontein and R550 in the area.

This was in response to the increased number of fatalities on these roads.

Duduza police spokesperson Sgt Harry Manaka says they were concerned about the number of people dying on their roads and decided to rope in different spiritual leaders, political leaders and members of the community to join them in praying for the roads.

“We believe we need all the leaders to fight the fatalities on our roads and restore safety on our roads.

“Most of the fatalities are caused by the drivers who refuse to abide by the rules of the road and are driving under the influence.”

Manaka further says the prayer was also held to raise awareness of road-safety crime-prevention tips against hijackings and other crimes against motorists.
