KwaThema – A 59-year-old man was arrested for assaulting his wife with an axe in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The victim’s daughter alleged she heard her 59-year-old mother screaming for help from the bedroom.

When the daughter opened the door, she saw her mother covered in blood.

She told her daughter that her stepfather, who was in the house, was threatening to kill her with an axe.

The daughter called the police and paramedics to the scene.

KwaThema police spokesperson Const Media Khoza says the victim sustained injuries to her head, back and face.

“The suspect was arrested on scene and detained at KwaThema SAPS. The victim was rushed to hospital, where she is fighting for her life,” she says.

KwaThema SAPS station commander Col Mareketle Thobejane is positive the law will take its course when the suspect appears in court.

She further urged victims of domestic violence to come forward and report it before it is too late.
