Couple and maid arrested for attempted fraud at home affairs

The three suspects were arrested and will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.

Duduza – A foreign national couple, aged 18 and 26, and a 41-year-old domestic worker have been arrested for attempted fraud on Tuesday afternoon.

This was after the police received a complaint of fraud from a Heidelberg Home Affairs official.

Heidelberg police spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate says on arrival the police were directed to three suspects, two Pakistani nationals and a South African.

“It is alleged they were applying for a late registration of birth certificate for the 18-year-old as a South African.

“The two were assisted by the domestic worker who is originally from North West Province.

“Upon police interviews with the suspects, it was revealed that the suspects were from Warrenton in Nothern Cape Province and recently moved to the area,” explains Tshilate.

The three suspects were arrested and will appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court soon.
