Underperforming maths learners get a major boost

The programme is a four-year initiative that aims to develop 5000 Grade Nine learners within Ekurhuleni by providing mathematical skills and tools.

Kwatsaduza – The Maths 2022 programme is inviting the community of Kwatsaduza for the winter mathematics revision classes which are set to start on June 17 and run until June 20 at various high schools in KwaThema, Duduza and Daveyton.

The goal of the project is to have developed 5 000 Grade Nine learners’ mathematics skills by the year 2022, create 500 maths tutors, social entrepreneurs and provide training to 5 000 parents to become actively involved in their children’s education.

“We already have 1 200 Grade Nine learners participating in the programme and we are very pleased with the results thus far,” says project manager of Maths 2022 Ntsane Masiloane.

The classes will be conducted at Kenneth Masekela Secondary School in KwaThema, MOM Seboni Secondary School in Duduza and Dinoto Technical Secondary School in Daveyton.

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants, who are sponsoring the entire programme, will also be equipping learners with study skills and exam techniques.

Masiloane says: “Our sponsors will be educating the learners about how to prepare for university, bridging the gap and career guidance.”
