Muzo wants to change the world through his music

"What makes one stand out as an artist is the ability to spread hope and peace. According to him, music is “an instrument of the people and the vocal cords of our society”.

Tsakane  – A superstar in the making, Siphesihle Sibande (17) aka Da_Creation believes he can make a change in the world through his music.

“I have been passionate about music since the age of 11,” says the resident of Extension One David Bopape Zone.

Siphesihle, who started rapping at the age of 11, believes music has the power to eliminate human cruelty, empower and stimulate the community and bring about positive change.

“I want to ignite the spirit of hip-hop because even the word ‘rap’ means rhythm and poetry,” says Siphesihle.

Siphesihle acknowledges that some rap music and its lyrical content can have a negative influence, especially on teenagers.

However, the young rapper says the genre is mostly misunderstood and is made up of different categories, not all of them a bad influence on young listeners.

Siphesihle, who is currently in Grade 11 at Hoërskool Dr Johan Jurgens in Springs, has a single titled Elevate, which is receiving positive feedback and is playlisted on EK FM. He has a new single which is set to drop in the coming week, titled Hubani lo.

He aims to be an educated musician and plans to go to university after completing his matric.

“I want to have my degree because previously artists merely relied on the music but did not fully understand the business side of it,” he says.

Siphesihle has some advice for other young up-and-coming artists: “I don’t believe in dreams. I believe in utmost reality.

“People should actually pursue whatever they want to pursue without any boundaries or hindrances, while being realistic.

“They should know the perks and acknowledge the challenges.”

“To me, music is an antidote to human atrocities,” says Siphesihle.
