Police teach learners about safety

Tsakane – Members of the police conducted a child protection awareness and school safety programme at Letsie Primary School on Monday.

This was conducted in collaboration with Child Welfare, Sanca, COGTA and One Strong Voice Foundation.

Tsakane police spokesperson Sgt Lerato Mngomezulu says the objective of the programme is to teach learners about their safety at school, at home and when playing.

“We decided to respond to the spate of kidnappings in the Kwatsaduza area.

“We are concerned about the safety of our children and hope that through the initiative many more young lives will be spared.

“We are educating the learners to always be alert, not to speak to strangers and to report to their parents or an elder if anyone tried to kidnap them,” she says.

Mngomezulu says they urge parents to warn their children about speaking to strangers.

“We will only be able to fight this cancer if we all join hands and remove the perpetrators from the streets.
