KwaThema youth armed with skills

Tlhabane Tsagane says they have success stories through their programmes and urge those who need help to better their lives to register for free skills training.

KwaThema – Make It Count Youth Development encouraged residents to lead a healthier lifestyle during an event at KwaThema Community Hall on Tuesday.

This was part of the organisation’s social change programmes which focuses on offering young people skills in the importance of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition.

Make It Count Youth Development centre manager Tlhabane Tsagane says they decided to hold the initiative after conducting research that revealed most of the youth don’t understand the importance of leading a healthy lifestyle.

“This leads to illnesses and diseases among young people

“We arm them with skills in hygiene and exercising.

“We have programmes meant to assist young people between the ages of 18 to 35 because most of them are out of school and unemployed.

“We have programmes we run quarterly, where skills on how to become a leader, time management and job readiness are taught.”

The organisation identified that tertiary institutions do not offer job readiness skills.

“To help these young people sustain themselves and arm them with information we refer them to the relevant institutions that might help them to better their lives.

“This might be for further learning opportunities, recruitment or computer skills,” he explains.

Young people in the area are encouraged to enroll for the programmes.

Tlhabane says they have success stories through their programmes and urge those who need help to better their lives to register for free skills training.

“We only request an amount of R300 from those who need computer training,” he adds.
